i love movies. have always loved the draw to a story that gives no option but to be swept away into a different period, life, surroundings. some of my most favorite movies are either fantasy or period pieces (note the common theme of "something-other-than-present-day"). and as of late i have noticed that my favorite movies always have a fantastically sweeping score. i can always tell if i really like the movie if i want to not only buy the movie, but the score as well.

can you say "gone with wind" or "lord of the rings"?

here are some of my favorite movies/scores. these are movies that after watching them, i quickly got onto itunes and made the purchase. see if you know them! if not, then i recommend finding a remedy for this an quickly...

1. "Lord of the Rings" Howard Shore

2. "The Duchess" Rachel Portman

3. "Frida" Elliot Goldenthal

4. "The New World" James Horner

5. "The Village" James Newton Howard

there are several more i could list, as it was tough enough to pick just these 5. i feel that a good movie is not only made by the story, but by all integral parts including music. if you don't believe me, watch a movie on its most climactic part without the sound and then you'll see.

what do you think? what are your favorite scores to movies?
